Montaña Redonda – popular hot spot with the most stunning 360 view in the area.
I live now here 12 years and I enjoy to spend my weekends outside. I love to venture out and explore new things and plan family adventures in Punta Cana and across our beautiful island.
I did the trip to this beautiful mountain the first time a couple of years ago and back than it has not been quiet so popular, like it is now. It has been known only by locals and was hard to get to, since roads where in bad shape and it just took forever to get there. That has changed a bit.
2 years ago the new highway to Miches has been finished and it takes with a car now 45 minutes from Punta Cana. It is so easy to find, since you just go straight, passing Macao Beach and Uvero Alto.
Once you see on your right side the sign for the parking lot, turn and look for a nice shady spot to leave your car. The parking fee is $ 100.00 Peso (around US $ 3.00). Local driver with trucks that fit up to 30 passengers and owners of pickups with benches on the back and 4×4 drive will approach you and offer you there services, to bring you to the top and back.
You wanna go with one of them, trust me! The road is narrow and even if you have experience driving in this terrain, it is just too risky to try it on your own. Those locals do this every day, they are in contact by radio and manage the up and down driving traffic quiet well.
The prices for transport vary and it comes down to, how good you are negotiating.
We meet a few more visitors and decided to join their group. We ended up paying for 8 adults plus little Alex $ 800.00 Peso (US $ 3.00 per adults) for transport and each US $ 3.00 entrance fee to the mountain. Total cost each US $ 6.00 per person.
We took the big truck on the way up and yes you have to buckle up! This is not a smooth ride at all and gets quiet bumpy at times and you get shacked around a lot. If you haven’t died from one of many heart attacks along the way when the road really gets narrow and the driver just shifts into a lower gear to make it somehow up the mountain, you will be rewarded with an amazing view of the ocean and lagoons on one side and peaks that seem to touch the clouds on the other side.
Nature lover will definitely enjoy the luscious green of surroundings that stand in great contrast with the turquoise blue water of the ocean. On clear days you can see until Samana de la Mar and far away the silhouettes of the mountains in Samana. Breathtaking!
What can you do on Montaña Redonda?
Sit down and relax! There is plenty of space to do so. You have hammocks and seats, but also some crazy swings that take you over the edge, for those who dear.
You have a small restaurant that offers local dishes for lunch, water and drinks. A bit more expensive than down in the village, but it taste a bit better up there with this amazing views.
There are photographers that offer their services to take fun memories back home, jumping the broom or just You, the sky and this swing.
Be warned it is not cheap, but you can negotiate and there is no obligation. They have a little shop where they work and you get to take the pictures right away to take home.
What is the best way to get to Montaña Redonda?
Well you can do as I did. Rent a car and drive there on your own. It is really easy!
You can find rental car companies in Punta Cana easily and the price start US $ 50.00-100.00 / vehicle per day
Or ask your tour operator or representative in the hotels to book a tour for you. There are several tour operator offering a full day tour starting at around US $ 150.00 including, horseback riding on the beach, lunch at a really nice restaurant on Playa Esmeralda in Miches, transportation, drinks and a guide.
