This Mountain Bike Competition Marks The End of Season 2017 – El Jilo de Outback
We are known for our adventure tours to the countryside, that we offer to visitors of the Dominican Republic, so they can learn more about the rich and interesting culture and history of our island.
But we are doing much more than this!
One of co-founders, Sr. Cabral is not only a nature lover and adventurer. He loves the outsides and extreme sports. Riding mountain bike himself gives him the opportunity to share his passion with many like-minded locals. Since he is a great supporter of this sport he decided back in 2010 to organize and host an event called the “Jilo de Outback” here in the East of Dominican Republic – in Punta Cana.
The idea is to get enthusiasts of this sport together to end a great season of mountain bike competitions across the island. Since it is the last event of the year, it is also used as a get together with the families and kids and visitors that are interested in outdoor activities in Punta Cana, like this one.
The Mountain bike club – Punta Cana MTB in Higuey with the support of other local mountain bike clubs of the area is helping to organize this fantastic events with up to 400 participants and visitors each year. Along the route stations for water supplies, refreshments and power bars are located, as well as technical support teams.

What Did Participating Mountain Bike Teams And Clubs Thought About The Event:
Delivery Santo Domingo – a team that is competing across the globe in top notch events like in South Africa or the Rocky Mountains said that it is their favorite event to finish a season.
“The views are spectacular and the track quiet challenging. We love to come to this race, because here they make us feel welcome and take good care of us. It is real fun to be here.”
Armando from Bike Zone Punta Cana tought:
“The event is always really nice, the landscape very beautiful and overall it is a really pleasant experience.
I love the fact that Outback encourages and supports the mountain bike sport in the East of the Dominican Republic.”
Alfredo Javier Cruz – support team from team Rolochongos Punta Cana, assisted at one of the important check point in the mountains where route A and B divided for different levels of the competition and indicated the way for the bikers and handed out cold water to those who needed.
He thought:
” This event really nice organized and really exciting, just the spectacular view from the ranch is worth coming here.
I like this competition, it is unique here in the East, since it gives you everything from great views, river crossing and challenging up and downhill tracks.
You pass small villages and get to interact with the people living here. I really had a great time.”
Leonte Alberto – 2nd place winner of category heavy weight and club member of Rolochongos in Punta Cana told us:
In my opinion, the event ” El Jilo de Outback” has become a traditional mountain bike event. It is awaited by a lot of people, for being the last of the year and the cycling community looks forward to it.
As every year, it has different categories to encourage more and more the participation of new cyclists. This year the category Gravel (Hybrid) was included as a novelty.
As for the routes of the event, despite being relatively short. They are very demanding routes, because during the whole journey there are ups and downs, always demanding the cyclist to push for the most.
More and more there is a higher level of the participants and it is getting harder to win.
Regarding the facilities of Outback’s ranch, spot on. Organization with the parking, security, good food!
In summary an excellent event!”
Gomas anchas (Santo Domingo), Wannabe (Santo Domingo) Ciclo MTB, Moto Sierra MTB, BMC race team ( Santo Domingo), Mountay Bebe, SunRide Punta Cana Punta Cana Bike, Higuey MTB and many other mountain bike clubs participated in the different categories of the race.
New Mountain Bike Tour Planned By Outback Adventure In Punta Cana
For the first time the Mangoose electrical bikes have been presented and introduces so people could try them out, giving us direct feedback, and learn more about our new adventure tour to come.
The idea is to offer visitors that love to challenge themselves. People that are looking for more active things to do in Punta Cana and don’t just want to sit on the beach of their all-inclusive hotels. It gives them the opportunity to go out and have fun exploring the Real Dominican Republic with a local guide and an activity to work out while on vacation.
Those mountain bikes give only motor support on request and really challenging parts of the routes if needed. That way almost everybody that is interested, but not necessarily well trained can participate and enjoy this great new adventure.
We also plan to offer an opportunity to Punta Cana visitors to participate in this local event next year, in a category called – Paseo – no time limit is given, just to complete the route. A local guide and support team will be available as well as a medal for participation, as a great memory of an adventure in Dominican Republic.
