“Great Dominican Culture experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014 NEW

The Outback Adventure Excursion was AMAZING. Ruddy and Wilson were soooooo informative. The knowledge that they both shared with us about the Dominican Republic’s culture and way of living was very informative. It was really sad to see how well we have it here in the US and we still are always complaining, yet, in D.R. people live with less then the bare minimum and live happily. The tour of the school was so sad, the fact that the teacher has to teach different grades at different hours and get paid about $200 AMERICAN dollars a month is unbelievable. how they make ends meet with that kind of salary, is beyond me. And even getting paid peanuts for his services, he also sometimes buys school supplies for kids that cant afford them. it is a very humbling experience. Aside from the school, we also stopped in a local families house where they showed us how they make coffee, and chocolate. it is crazy how chocolate is made from a fruit that the seed is white, and actually tastes like mango. I highly suggest anyone going to vacation in D.R. to DEFINITELY do the Outback Safari trip. but see if you can request for Ruddy and Wilson. these guys were Great. After the tour of the island, they took us to Macao beach. The water there was beautiful. The great part of the beach aside from the beauty of it is that the driver, Wilson, stood the whole time that we were at the beach, inside the that HOT bus watching our belonging. That was very very nice of him. He made us feel so assured that our belongings were in good hands and that no one was going to take our stuff. This made us feel very safe to go enjoy ourselves in the beach. OH!!!! and just in case you are worried about the HEAT, DONT, because Ruddy and Wilson make sure that you stay well hydrated by serving u plenty of water and rum and coca cola LOL. IT WAS AN AMAZING EXCURSION. A MUST DO FOR EVERYBODY. THE RESORT WAS NICE BUT YOU DONT GET THE REAL EXPERIENCE OF THE ISLAND IF YOU DONT GO ON THIS EXCURSION.

Our first excursion and best one – after spending time in a very Spanish hotel, we loved seeing the true DR.

Our tour guide Ruddy was sooooooooo knowledgeable about the DR, he spent the whole tour telling us everything from the school system, government, housing, agriculture etc. the kids on the bus were engrossed with his stories, he’s a very charismatic tour guide. The truck driver Wilson couldn’t do enough for us either, so lovely and friendly.

We made lots of visits – a local school, coffee and cocoa plantations, cigar productions, beautiful beach. There are a lot of people selling, but you are never forced to buy which ruddy made very clear – the people we visit are already paid so we are not obliged to buy anything and we didn’t feel to either.

If you want to see the true DR this trip is for you!

My wife & I went on the Outback Safari excursion with Eddy as our guide and Popi as our driver.

Great day! Visited an Outback Safari sponsored school, toured a coffee & cocoa mom & pop operation in the hills, had a rustic lunch in the outback restaurant area in the mountain, saw how cigars were made, sugar cane harvested, etc. We ended with boogie boarding on a public beach and had drinks handed to us throughout the tour. Highly recommended!

Thanks for a great excursion Eddy & Popi!

“A must see and do while in Punta Cana”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2014

I was in Punta Cana with friends and family and did a 1/2 day Outback Safari on July 31, 2014. If you are at all interested in seeing the back country and seeing life away from the resorts you must take this tour. Our tour guide was Eddie and our driver was Niko. What a great pair. When you become “Eddie’s Family” for a day you will feel right at home. The truck ride was open air and at times was very rough and bumpy but that is the way it is in the back country. We visited a school, a working home and a wonderful beach. This was mine and my wife’s second tour with Outback. We had Eddie as a tour guide in 2008 and he just keeps getting better. School was out when we were there so there were a lot of children following the truck asking for money but Eddie ask you not to give them money as this teaches them to beg and not get an education. A 7 year old asking for money is cute but a 27 year old not so much. What we did was before we left home we went to the Dollar Store and got small gifts and candy and gave it to the teacher at the school and parents at the home to give to the children as they saw fit. If you can book this tour while in Punta Cana you will love it and if you are lucky you will be “Eddie and Niko’s Family” for the day.

“Eddie’s (and Leo) Family Safari – Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2014

My husband and I enjoyed the Outback Safari as part of Eddie’s family. Eddie was our tour guide and Leo was driver extrodanaire – and not too bad as a bar tender either. The trip was informative, fun, and enjoyable. Loved learning about the coffee, cocoa, cigars and sugar cane (rum). The lunch meal was the best food we had in Punta Cana – and we had a lot of good food. Highly recommend this excursion – and especially with Eddie and Leo. Only suggestion – take lot’s of money for souvenir’s, coffee, cocoa – profits help the schools and I found more to buy than I expected. Will do this again – when we return to Punta Cana.

“One of the BEST parts of our vacation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2014

Our family is still talking about our experience with Outback Safari. It was recommended to us by another family that we did not know at the resort, and we are so incredibly happy that we took their advice! We were two families traveling together (4 Adults,2 girls at age 14 and 2 boys at age 11 ).

Ruddy was THE GREATEST!!! He was extremely knowledgable and truly seemed to care about sharing everything he could with us. We are already trying to plan our next trip to the Dominican Republic and one way or another we are planning on including Outback Safari. We had an opposite reaction from the other teacher that left a review – yes, the visit to the school was eye opening to say the least – but that just encouraged us to want to help in some way, shape or form. Any Ideas????

We loved every aspect of the experience from the school, to the reserve to the local house. And the food was amazing for lunch, as was the view! Ruddy was also very skilled at pouring our favorite rum and sprite while on the road! :) The terrain was a bit rough at times, but for us it was all part of the experience and we enjoyed it just the same. We have nothing but great things to say about them! We highly recommend it! And if you can request a guide, ask for Ruddy!!!!!

You have to go on this trip if you’re in the Dom Rep to actually see what the country is like!

Our tour guide, Angel, was very informative, funny, and an overall pleasant person. Our driver, Mr. Wilson, did an excellent job navigating the truck throughout the villages. “Living & Learning in the Outback”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

If you want to learn about the culture and lifestyle of the people that live beyond your beachfront resort, an excursion such as Outback Safari is the way to go! Outback Safari has been a genuine highlight of our trip to Punta Cana. Our guide, Angel Espinal, provided a wealth of information, experience, and insight into the social / cultural / economical facets of the Dominican Republic. Our driver, Raymond, was skilled and courteous.
As others have mentioned, this is a full day excursion that provides a striking contrast to the all-inclusive resort experience. Pack light, and dress light. Swimwear and sandals, sunscreen, beach towel, camera, pocket money, and an adventurous spirit are all that you need to have a memorable day.
At $90 / person, Outback Safari provided excellent value. The safari stops provide hands-on learning experiences appropriate for any age, but older children will get more out of this than toddlers. We were happy to know that money spent on this excursion went to local businesses and schools.
In short, Outback Safari was an amazing learning experience that we would do again in a heartbeat!

“A Great Look at The Dominican Outside the Resorts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

A great way to get away from the resorts and see more of the countryside. The ride up into the hills can be a little rough but if you can handle that, you’ll have a great time.

The tour takes you to a local school, a family business manufacturing coconut oil and other products, a coffee/chocolate plantation, a sort of “mini zoo” with some local wildlife (and a stop for lunch), and finally back to Macao Beach for some boogie boarding. Be sure to bring your bathing suit.

Our tour guide, Ezekiel was friendly and informative, answering everyone’s questions and the driver, Nico did a great job of navigating the bumpy roads.

If you’re looking for a way to feel like you’ve seen the “real” Dominican Republic and not just a 1/4 mile of beach, I highly recommend this tour.

“Made an Excellent Choice”

My husband and I recently returned from our vacation to the DR, and we were debating between this activity and the ChocoMuseo at Mundo Autentico. I am very glad we went with Outback Adventures! We took the half-day tour from Punta Cana. Our guide, Ángel, told us he loved his country but was honest and straightforward about all aspects of daily living in the DR. He answered all of the tour group’s questions, and he and our driver were always willing to help in any way they could. There was plenty of water (and other drinks) provided throughout the trip and even a snack. I was especially impressed with Outback Adventures’ involvement in improving the lives of local people. A chunk of their proceeds (including 50% of the price of their merchandise, I believe) goes to providing supplies, uniforms, etc. to local children and others who need support. This was a fun, authentic experience, and I highly recommend it to other visitors.
